Petroleum goes in your car. Not on your skin!

Petroleum in Your Cosmetics
More than 95% of your cosmetics contain at least one ingredient stemming from the petrochemical industry. They include mineral oil, paraffin, petroleum, but also parabens, PEG, glycols, polyethylene, sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate and the list goes on and on...
These make up only a few of the ingredients coming from the petrochemical industry and of which you will find in great quantities in your everyday cosmetics.
In October 2010, The David Suzuki Foundation published a study * using over 6200 participants. The study focused on only 12 of the hundreds of toxic substances potentially found in your cosmetics. The survey asked participants to state whether one or a number of the 12 ingredients were found in their cosmetics.
The response was truly revealing : More than 80% of the products mentioned by participants contained at least one of the 12 ingredients considered harmful and to be avoided. More than half of the participants' products contained more than one of these 12 ingredients considered harmful and to be avoided *.
Petroleum in Cosmetics is Useless

Why does the cosmetic industry use so many synthetic products from the petrochemical industry? The answer is simple: these ingredients are available in large quantities, cost next to nothing, and relaxed rules facilitate their use.
The actual cost to health and the environment of the massive use of these ingredients is open for discussion. Extensive studies will be necessary to prove their noxiousness beyond any reasonable doubt.
Despite all evidence, the tobacco industry has fought now for over 50 years to stop it from being included on the list of products dangerous to health. The ever powerful cosmetic industry did the same with its ingredients. The stakes are in the billions of dollars.
"The real question is this: Is it necessary to use these ingredients to manufacture high quality, efficient cosmetics?"

Absolutely not! Almost all the synthetic ingredients used in cosmetics can be replaced, and beneficially to you, with natural, plant based ingredients that are much richer in nutrients for your skin than petroleum by-products.
The moisturizing, protective and renewing properties are improved. Plant based ingredients have a much greater affinity with skin than petroleum, and of course there is not one single plant based ingredient used in cosmetics suspected of causing cancer.
